 What to Expect in your Sports Massage

All clients are ask to sanitise their hands and have their temperature taken upon arrival. A short covid screening form and medical consultation form are also completed before any massage.

The medical consultation form includes basic medical information, allergies, medical history, an initial assessment of the issue, Range of movement and postural assessment if required. 

Based on the information collected and assessment, we discuss and plan your treatment for your sports massage session, taking in to account your expectations.

The most effective sports massage involves direct contact with the skin and the use of oil or lotion. This will require you to undress and uncover the part of the part of the body which requires massage. Please be re-assured all care and attention is take to maintain your modesty using towels as coverings. Sports shorts are useful to bring to wear during a sports massage.

After you sports massage is completed, I will offer any relevant after care.

Sports Massage session can only be made by appointment, no walk-ins.

Appointment can be made by telephone, messaging through website site or Facebook messenger.

You can reschedule or cancel your appointment, but this must be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, or you could incur a cancellation fee.

Whether you are training to be an elite athlete or a specific sporting event, or just looking for a solution to life's everyday aches and pains, everyone can benefit from sports massage. Everyone can suffer from muscular aches and pains, or muscle tension from their job, or daily activity. Sports massage can be used to treat muscular issues however they arise.

Does a Sports Massage hurt?

Sports massage does NOT have to hurt. It is true that when working on deep muscle tissue, or on muscles that are very tense and tender, some techniques used to relieve the muscle tension can cause some temporary discomfort during and after massage. However, at Active life Balance we always work with the client and only operate within your pain tolerance, and always agree a treatment plan tailored for you. Overall sports massage reduces muscle tension, which often results in you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

What is Myofascial release technique?

Fascia tissue can become tight/ distorted, impede movement, and in some cases cause discomfort. Myofascial release is a form of therapy without oil/lotion, performed directly to the skin that can release the tension within the fascia tissue, much like an IT band release.

What to expect  during Myofascial release treatment?

You may feel some small discomfort / pain; some describe this as a good pain, that feels like a pulling or stretching and release of tension. Please be re-assured that, as a therapist, I will always check on the discomfort level throughout the treatment and make adjustments in line with the client’s feedback.

What is Sports Massage for Relaxation?

Many of my clients come to me initially with a specific issue like back pain or tight hamstrings. After we have sorted out the initial muscular problem, many clients decide to come back for regular maintenance massage, a firm but relaxing massage to keep their muscles in good condition. 

Other clients have a very stressful life and just need a deep and firm massage to help reduce the tense in their muscle.

This is why I offer an option for sports massage for relaxation. The client gets to relax, have a good deep/ firm massage on back, neck and shoulders without having to moved into different positions and be given instructions. I also included relaxing music, incense and as much or as little conversation as requested.
